Create an Online Payment Form with Stripe & WPForms in 5 Easy Steps
Not so long ago, Stripe made an impact on what we call payment processing. They were a solution that simplified online transactions between consumers and merchants.
Today, customers of Stripe include billion-dollar organizations such as Amazon, Facebook, Uber and Shopify.
WPForms recognized that Stripe is not just utilized by larger corporations but is a trusted payment processor for smaller online merchants as well.
That is why WPForms has added a Stripe addon for their forms.
If you conduct any transactions online, whether it be selling goods, services or simply asking for donations, WPForms and Stripe can take the hassle out of payment processing.
Throughout this article, I will teach you how to set-up Stripe in WPForms in 5 easy steps! You will be collecting online payments in no time!

Step 1. Activate Stripe on Your WordPress Website
Locate the WPForms tab within your WordPress dashboard and click on “Addons”.
To connect Stripe with WPForms you need to install and activate the Stripe addon.
You can find the Stripe addon by searching for it in the upper right-hand corner on the addon page.
Once the Stripe addon is activated, you will be available to connect and add Stripe within your forms.
Step 2. Connect Stripe to WordPress Forms
When you install and activate Stripe, head back to the WPForms toolbar in the dashboard and select “Settings.”
In the admin area, you will see a tab called “Payment.”
Scroll down until you see Stripe and click connect.
All you will need to do is enter your Stripe account key. After you do this, you will see a green checkmark appear next to the connection status in the Stripe Payment section.
Step 3. Incorporating Stripe into Your Forms
Up to this point, you have now successfully installed and added Stripe to WPForms. From here on you have two options for incorporating Stripe into your payment forms:
- Create a new payment form
- Edit an existing payment form
The process for incorporating Stripe into your forms will be the same regardless of what you choose. For this example, we will start fresh by creating a brand new form.
Stripe requires a minimum of two fields in order for the form to work and the payment to process.
Typically, for payment forms, you should require a first and last name field along with an email field. After adding those two items insert the Stripe Credit Card Field.
After adding any additional fields and laying out your Stripe payment form to your liking click on “Payments” found at the bottom left toolbar in the WPForms dashboard.
Select Stripe and check the box “Enable Stripe payments.”
The payment description you see below is what will appear on the user’s next credit card statement. This is where you want to specify what their purchase was for.
Congratulations! You have just created a Stripe payment form for your WordPress website. Everything mentioned above is how to create a one-time payment form.
Now, to make your life even easier I am going to walk you through how to create a recurring payment form using Stripe.
Step 4. Adding Recurring Payments with Stripe
Stripe isn’t just for one-time payments. If you offer subscription services you can set up a recurring payment with Stripe inside WPForms.
Heading back to Payments within the WPForm you created, view your Stripe settings. (This is where you enabled Stripe payments)
You will see the option that is called Subscription. Go ahead and check that box also. After you check the box additional fields will appear below.
You will be prompted to add information for the following fields:
- Plan Name: This is where you will clarify the title of the subscription the user has selected, such as “Yearly Audio-Book Subscription.” This shows in the Stripe transaction.
- Recurring Period: Define how often the user will be charged. Stripe offers Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, Semi-Yearly and Yearly recurring payment options.
- Customer Email: Stripe requires that you select and Email field from your payment form that shows the best way to customer can be contacted.
There you have it!
You have successfully created a Stripe payment form using WPForms. Now, all you need to do is add the form onto one of your WordPress pages or posts and style it to your liking.
Step 5. Seeing Transactions
You view Stripe transactions just like how you view every other form entry in WPForms.
Select your payment form and click on entries. In the right sidebar, there is a section titled Payment Details. Each blue link will take you to the Stripe transactions. There will be one transaction link for one-time payments and three transaction links for recurring payments.
